Guwahati: The Doomdooma regional committee of Bir Lachit Sena targeted the Doomdooma Forest Division on Friday. They submitted a formal memorandum demanding an immediate end to illegal sand mining, timber smuggling, and unauthorized earth excavation across the Tinsukia district. The group claims indiscriminate river sand extraction causes massive environmental damage.
Regional chief secretary Suruj Das and Tinsukia district vice-president Abhishek Bora led the charge. They insisted that illegal activities threaten the region's natural resources. "The illegal extraction of river sand by destroying nature must be stopped immediately, while timber transportation without valid challans must also be brought to an end," the two leaders stated.
The memorandum demands a stop to the use of JCBs, bulldozers, and dumpers for earth excavation. These activities threaten wetlands and agricultural land. The organization wants forest protection in reserved areas to keep wildlife safe. They called for regular patrolling to enforce forest and environmental laws. The group gave the forest authorities seven days to initiate effective action against these violations.
