Dimapur Residents Warn of Nighttime Danger Due to Broken Streetlights

Kohima: Dimapur streets are turning deadly. Motorists and pedestrians say inadequate lighting across the city and the Dimapur-Chümoukedima four-lane road makes night travel a gamble. Critical gaps in illumination leave major junctions dark. Some stretches have only one or two working lights while others have none at all.

Trouble spots include the DC Court Junction via Dhobinala, Tajen Ao Road, Nyamo Lotha Road, MP Road, GS Road, and Hokishe Sema Road. The Khermahal stretch and the route from Old Dhansiri Bridge to Purana Bazar also lack proper light. Darkness hits hard from Deluxe Point through the Supermarket to Purana Bazar, too.

Drivers struggle with glare. High beams from oncoming traffic blind motorists and hide pedestrians in dark clothes. This leads to near-misses and crashes. Locals fear the shadows invite crime, stating, "Adequate lighting would improve both road safety and public security."

The four-lane road to Chümoukedima suffers from intermittent coverage and pitch-black gaps. Officials face pressure to fix broken lamps and install new ones along these busy routes. Residents insist that road widening means nothing without better safety infrastructure. They want immediate action to keep these high-traffic stretches lit and secure.
