Flooding Destroys Vital Bridge Between Chümoukedima and Peren

Kohima: A temporary bridge connecting Jharnapani and Molvom collapsed after relentless rain and flooding triggered a transit crisis. The washout severed the primary link between Chümoukedima and Peren district. Police are rerouting commuters immediately.

The Dimapur Commissioner of Police issued a formal advisory on August 5 to manage the bottleneck. Travel between Chümoukedima and Jalukie remains restricted to designated detours. Vehicles are now moving through mountain roads.

Light motor vehicles must use two specific paths. Drivers can travel from 7th Mile Junction in Chümoukedima to Pimla Village via Shokhuvi Village. Alternatively, they can head from New Chümoukedima through the Iron Structure Bridge to Gaili Village via Ruzaphema Village. These routes remain the only options for smaller cars.

Heavy motor vehicles face a separate set of instructions. Drivers must take the road from Medziphema to Punglwa Village. This path runs through Sirhi Angami Village and Sochunoma Village. Police insist everyone follow these directives. Authorities stated, "all travellers commuting between Chümoukedima and Jalukie, Peren, and vice versa have been directed to use designated alternate routes with immediate effect."
