Imphal: A 60-year-old man died Monday in Manipur after his hunting partner shot him. The tragedy unfolded in the Kawltung area, a remote section of the Mualnuam village district. Ginkhansuan Guite and his companion set out for a hunt before separating to track prey through the dense forest.
The companion fired after spotting movement in the brush. He believed he saw a wild animal. The bullet hit Guite, killing him instantly. Officials said the shooter "mistook Guite for a wild animal" before opening fire.
The accused told local villagers about the shooting shortly after it happened. Residents trekked into the forest to retrieve the body. Police are now digging into the case to confirm the circumstances. They want to know if other factors played a role in the death.
