Imphal: A 36-year-old woman took a bullet Tuesday afternoon when two insurgent groups opened fire in Noney district. Ganchuiliu Kamei, wife of Dithailung Gangmei, was caught in the middle of a gunfight near Bunruang village. The clash happened close to the Imphal-Jiribam highway.

Reports indicate the firefight involved cadres from the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) and the Zeliangrong United Front (Jenchui). Kamei, who lives in Taodaijang village, suffered a bullet wound to the back of her right shoulder. Medics rushed her to a local healthcare facility. She survived the ordeal. Medical personnel said her "condition was stable and out of danger."

No gunmen died in the exchange. Nungba police and central security forces flooded the area shortly after the shooting stopped to secure the highway and stabilize the district. Officers from the Nungba Police Station have opened a formal investigation into the violence. They are currently working to determine exactly how the confrontation started.
