Kohima: The Lotha Students' Union (LSU) hosted an adolescent health workshop at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Chukitong on October 9. The event carried the theme, "Adolescence Without Stigma: Growing Up Informed - Gender-Inclusive Adolescent Health and Well-being Sensitisation Programme." Experts from the Wokha District Medical and Mental Health Department and Sakhi One Stop Centre led the sessions.
EAC Wokha, Sangmou Khiamniungan, tackled the dangers of peer pressure. He told students to talk openly with parents and siblings. He also pushed for empathy. "He also urged students to treat people living with diseases, including HIV & AIDS, with dignity and compassion, stressing the need to eliminate discrimination," the report noted.
Dr. Wothungo Jami, a psychiatrist, covered stress management and mental health signs. B Nganom Buchem focused on personal boundaries and consent. Thungbeni Kikon of the Sakhi One Stop Centre reviewed the POCSO Act and how to report inappropriate behavior. Other topics included puberty, personal hygiene, and pregnancy prevention. Dr. Visazotuo Yano discussed boys' health, while Dr. Benchumi Y Humtsoe detailed reproductive health and menstrual hygiene. Students wrapped up the day with an interactive Q&A session moderated by the LSU.
