Kohima: Mon District enters its second day without electricity after a 66kV transmission line failed. Heavy rains triggered the initial earth fault at 4:30 AM on July 19 near Tiru Village. Floods and blocked roads stopped crews from getting to work fast. Things got worse yesterday. At 1:00 PM on July 20, a landslide tore through conductors between tower locations No. 7 and 8 near Naginimora Town.
Hekaito Assumi, Executive Engineer of the Mokokchung Transmission Division, confirmed the damage. Locals helped officials patrol the area to find the break points. Officials still have no return date for the power. The mud makes the ground too dangerous for a quick fix. Addressing the public, Assumi stated, "The department is making all possible efforts to assess the damage and restore power at the earliest." Officials are now asking residents in the Tizit and Mon sections to stay patient while the department works to clear the wreckage.
