Imphal: India Post halted operations on three vital mail routes across Manipur. Ongoing security threats forced the move. Criminals recently set fire to postal mail, prompting the Department of Posts to act. The Imphal-Dimapur, Imphal-Mao, and Imphal-Ukhrul lines are now closed.
The Office of the Superintendent of Post Offices, Manipur Division, issued the directive with immediate effect. All surface mail bookings are frozen until further notice. This order follows direct instructions from the Chief Postmaster General, North-East Circle. Officials say the suspension stays until further orders.
The department distributed the mandate to Assistant Superintendents of Post Offices, Sub-Divisional Inspectors, and the Transit Mail Office at Imphal Head Post Office. The order explicitly noted the decision came "in view of the prevailing security situation and recent incidents affecting the movement of postal mail." Every Sub-Postmaster in the division must comply immediately.
