Guwahati: Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa is teaming up with the Sikh Aid Foundation to build 35 permanent, flood-proof houses in Upper Assam. This project aims to shield families in Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Nepali Khuti from the region's recurring, devastating floods. Randhawa is kicking in Rs 7 lakh for the construction. He hopes these elevated structures offer families lasting stability.
This effort marks a pivot from quick fixes to lasting help. Randhawa previously sent Rs 5 lakh to the Hello Life Foundation, working with creator Dimpu Baruah to get food, medicine, and clothes to displaced people. Other celebrities including Salman Khan, Randeep Hooda, Fukra Insaan, and Triggered Insaan have also joined the push to support the state.
Randhawa has a history of stepping up during disasters. He ran relief camps in Dera Baba Nanak and Dharowali during the Punjab floods and paid for home repairs and farm supplies like cattle feed and wheat seeds. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he donated Rs 20 lakh of his own money to the PM-CARES Fund. As he noted of his past work, it reflects a commitment to communities. The singer remains active in charity, providing, "greater safety and stability to families living in flood-prone areas."
