Flash floods displace hundreds and kill one in Mon district

Kohima: Flash floods and landslides hammered Naginimora, killing one person and wounding five. One of the injured remains in critical condition. The disaster displaced more than 260 families and cut off multiple villages from the rest of Mon district.

Longshing Konyak, a resident of Naginimora, stated the floods destroyed numerous houses and swept away household belongings, leaving hundreds of families in urgent need of relief. The Dikhu River rose to a dangerous height. It smashed the abutment of the Dikhu Bridge. Authorities closed the bridge to all traffic to prevent further loss.

Landslides severed access to the 6 NAP Camp. Roads to Upper Tiru, Lower Tiru, Kongan, Wakching, and Shetap are blocked. Clearance crews are working, but the debris remains a barrier. Flooding in Assam choked off supply lines for food and medicine. Stocks are now running critically low across the region.

Officials are running rescue and relief operations, but supplies are falling short. Survivors need food, water, clothes, medicine, and blankets. Damaged roads will likely block students from reaching their schools when the summer vacation ends. Teams are still working to assess the full scale of the wreckage across homes and farmland.
