Kohima: NHIDCL Director (Technical)-II U.J. Chamargore toured the battered Mon-Tizit and MTM roads on August 24. He traveled alongside the Executive Director (P) and the Deputy General Manager (P). They examined specific road sinks and landslides left by a July 19 cloudburst.
This weather event hammered Mon, Longleng, and Mokokchung districts. It severed critical transport links across the region. Roads collapsed. Infrastructure buckled under the strain.
Chamargore met with contractors and consultants at the Project Management Unit office in Mon. He demanded total coordination between the regional office, the project unit, and local district officials. Teams must work together. The agency ordered the immediate movement of manpower and heavy machinery to the affected stretches.
NHIDCL stated, "Immediate restoration, mobilisation of adequate manpower and machinery, and close monitoring of vulnerable stretches were prioritised to restore connectivity and ensure the safety of road users." The agency maintains that its current focus remains on building resilient infrastructure to keep these mountain roads open.
