Guwahati: The Diju River is out of its banks again. Heavy rainfall in the Karbi Hills triggered a second wave of flooding in just two weeks along the border of Assam's Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts. The surge hit low-lying areas hard.
Waters moved into residential zones and farmland in the Amoni Revenue Circle, specifically hitting the localities of Shiyalekhaiti and Kalapani. The ground is soaked. Residents are dealing with submerged homes and ruined crops as the cycle of displacement begins anew for families barely recovered from the last deluge.
The economic toll remains a top concern. Agricultural fields are under water, threatening the primary source of income for many households. Residents are watching the water levels with deep fear, as current weather reports offer little relief. One resident noted, "The situation could deteriorate further if rainfall continues over the coming days." People in the region remain on high alert, waiting for the river to recede.
