Imphal: A Delhi court granted interim protection from arrest to Congress MP and Jawaharlal Nehru University professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam. Special Judge Digvinay Singh issued the order Thursday at Rouse Avenue Courts. The police must provide seven days of notice before any potential arrest. The investigation remains active.

Students accused the MP of sexual harassment. Delhi Police filed an FIR under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The court noted Akoijam has cooperated with the probe and lacks a criminal history. However, police have yet to record statements from the complainants. The judge said the police cannot move forward because, "JNU had not provided the complainants' names and other details."

The public prosecutor confirmed the department is still waiting on the university for student identities. If Akoijam stops cooperating, the police can return to court for new directions. This case runs parallel to a separate fight over his job status. JNU fired him on October 9 following an inquiry. The Delhi High Court stayed that termination on November 2. Akoijam continues to deny the accusations and calls them "politically motivated." He previously served at the Centre for the Study of Social Systems.
