ABVP Protests at JNU Over Harassment Claims Against MP Bimol Akoijam

Imphal: ABVP members swarmed Jawaharlal Nehru University on September 18. They demanded immediate action regarding sexual harassment allegations filed by 11 women students against Congress Lok Sabha MP and professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam. The group challenged the school over a four-month delay. The complaints landed at the JNU Internal Committee back in May.

Protesters want a fair, independent, and time-bound inquiry. They insist the administration must operate without political influence. The ABVP also pointedly questioned the silence from the Congress party, the NSUI, and various Left-leaning student organizations regarding the matter. The university has yet to announce any formal findings.

Akoijam denied everything. He claimed "racist schemers" are working to ruin his reputation with unverified lies. He maintains he has done nothing wrong. His legal team is already moving to fight what he terms a malicious smear campaign. The university continues to process the complaints under its internal rules, and the case remains ongoing.
