Kohima: The Chakhesang Cultural Research Institute kicked off a campaign to buy a permanent plot of land on August 2, 2026. The launch took place at the Kohima residence of Kudecho Khamo, the advisor for the Civil Administration Works Department. Mesusayi Tetseo, the managing director of the institute, led the proceedings while Finance Committee convenor Vahine Thisa laid out the project report.
Rev. Neikko Mero, senior pastor of KCBCK, held a prayer for the ticket sales. Kudecho Khamo then launched the raffle draw. The project aims to secure a fixed home for the group, which has operated since 1993 with headquarters in Chetheba. The institute works to protect the customs, heritage, and values of the Chakhesang people.
Organizers are running this fundraising drive alongside the Chakhesang Cultural Organisation. They urged community members to buy tickets to help the cause. Organizers said, "every ticket purchased would support the preservation and promotion of the community’s cultural identity." The institute views this effort as a sign of unity and collective responsibility. They hope the project will inspire the younger generation to protect the legacy of their forefathers as the world shifts.
