Guwahati: The Assam Special Task Force (STF) arrested three more suspects in Kolkata to expand its investigation into fake GST and fraudulent Input Tax Credit (ITC) schemes. These latest arrests push the total count to 12 people held in custody. The operation continues to target syndicates running these scams across India.

Police moved fast in West Bengal. On August 2, officers nabbed Vivek Kumar Gupta and Surajit Barman in the Tiljala area of Kolkata regarding STF Police Station Case No. 05/2026. Two days later, on August 4, agents took Vineet Kumar Poddar into custody in Kaikhali for his role in STF Police Station Case No. 02/2026.

Officers seized mobile phones, SIM cards, and various documents during the raids. The force stated, "The investigation is ongoing and further legal action will be taken in accordance with the law."

Gupta and Poddar live in Kolkata. Barman, who calls Barama in Assam's Baksa district home, had been hiding in the city to dodge the police. After securing transit remand from the court, officers brought the trio to Guwahati on Wednesday night.
