Guwahati: Police in Assam have launched investigations into two separate, brutal attacks on minors. In Moran, authorities arrested Rawan Mundari after a disabled girl became pregnant. Mundari, a resident of No. 2 Bejpathar village, allegedly assaulted the girl for months while threatening her to keep silent. The victim's family reported the crime to Moran police after discovering the pregnancy. A court has remanded Mundari to judicial custody.
Separately, a Special Investigation Team is working in the Hailakandi district to solve the gang rape and murder of a 15-year-old student. The victim’s mother found her daughter dead and undressed on August 1. Katlicherra officers discovered visible injuries on the girl and sent the body to SK Roy Civil Hospital for an autopsy. By August 3, police arrested three people, including one minor, for the killing. The surge in violence sparked intense community anger.
Residents responded by blocking National Highway-6. Various organizations are now demanding a fast-track trial. One group stated, "The incident has sparked widespread outrage in the district." Local activists also held protest marches and submitted formal demands for justice to the district administration as investigators continue their work.
