Guwahati: Assam minister Keshab Mahanta toured the flood-ravaged Samaguri Revenue Circle in Nagaon district on August 9. He inspected water levels and checked on families stuck in relief camps. The minister scouted Goru Mara, Bhomora Guri, and Era Kalong to gauge the scale of the damage. Residents shared their struggles with him during his visit.

Mahanta stopped in Kalapani to address the displaced population directly. He promised that a highland would be built on vacant land to give locals a dry, safe spot when the water rises. Government officials confirmed the plan to provide this elevated refuge to the community. Mahanta noted that, "The government would conduct a review, in consultation with local residents, to explore the construction of an embankment in the vulnerable areas to address recurring flood-related problems."

Floodwaters remain a threat. The Kaliabor constituency continues to suffer as the Diju river meets the Kolong river channel. Authorities keep watch. Relief teams are still distributing supplies while they measure the full impact of the disaster on the ground.
