Guwahati: A four-member Congress delegation met the Dhubri District Commissioner on Saturday, November 7. They demanded immediate relief and housing for families dumped out of their homes during a recent eviction drive in the Alamganj Part-IX area. The state administration cleared the land, forcing residents out into the cold.
The delegation consisted of Wazed Ali Choudhury, the Leader of the Opposition and MLA from Birsing Jarua, alongside MLAs Abdus Sobhan Ali Sarkar of Gauripur, Baby Begum of Dhubri, and Ashraful Islam Sheikh of Parbatjhora. They pushed for the official protection of graveyards and local mazars located inside the cleared zone. These cultural sites need safety.
After handing over the formal memorandum, Choudhury hit back at political rivals. He accused the All India United Democratic Front of peddling lies regarding the party's stance on the displacement. Choudhury stated, "The Congress and its workers stood with the displaced families and would continue to raise their concerns to ensure justice for them." The party intends to keep the pressure on until the government provides a clear path forward for those who lost their property.
