Guwahati: Assam Congress leaders went on the offensive July 15, labeling the BJP government's pledge to create two lakh jobs a broken promise. Opposition members claim 40 lakh youth in the state remain unemployed. They argue the government consistently fails to hit its recruitment targets.

Congress MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar ripped into the administration's track record. He believes the current five-year plan for government work is destined to fail. "BJP often fails to deliver on what it promises. We currently have nearly 40 lakh unemployed young men and women in the state. Even the target of providing two lakh jobs over the next five years is unlikely to be achieved," Sikdar said.

Leader of Opposition Wazed Ali Chowdhury joined the fray. He accused the ruling party of recycling past claims about eight lakh employment opportunities and two lakh government posts. Chowdhury stated the opposition has a simple priority: "We have just one demand: our youth must be provided with work and employment."

Chowdhury also hammered the government on its handling of the state's flood crisis. He dismissed claims that high river levels caused the current disaster. Instead, he blamed poor urban planning and failing drainage systems. One day of rain caused the inundation, he insisted. The BJP government continues to maintain that its recruitment drives remain active across various departments to meet its employment goals.
