Guwahati: The Assam BJP pushed its chips to the center on September 8. Party president Dilip Saikia released a list of 38 candidates for the 2026 Silchar Municipal Corporation election. The move follows a decisive meeting of the state election committee.
The ticket covers all 38 wards, including spots reserved for women and Scheduled Caste members. Candidates include Biswajit Das in Ward 1, Saurav Kanti Nath in Ward 2, Doli Das in Ward 3, Sibani Rani Das in Ward 4, Dipak Das in Ward 5, and Kanchan Deb in Ward 6. Ataur Rahman Laskar takes Ward 17, while Joy Das, Arabindu Das, Bhakti Sen Talukdar, and Sumana Das secure Wards 18 through 21.
The roster continues with Paramita Chanda Gupta, Chandrima Deb, Pulak Das, Anushree Deb Bhattacharjee, Rituparna Bhattacharjee, Lipika Roy, Kuldeep Nihal Choudhury, Mrinalini Sinha, Rajashree Roy, Satarupa Dey, Chandrani Das Roy, Sushmita Purkayastha, Amarendra Paul, Sankar Bose, Uttam Goala, Pantadeep Roy, Dr Debasmita Nath, Shakti Goala, and Anup Barman. These names appeared days after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma signaled that the list was coming soon.
The election is a high-stakes battle for the party in the Barak Valley. As party leadership prepares for the vote, the official announcement confirms that the "BJP has fielded candidates across 38 wards."
