Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein pledged full government support for the 2,880-MW Dibang Multipurpose Project on September 13. He met with NHPC Limited executive director Narender Kumar to iron out hurdles. The project must move fast. Their talks covered land acquisition, local security, power needs, and infrastructure development.
The Rs 31,875-crore project relies on a 278-metre-high concrete gravity dam on the Dibang River. It will soon become the tallest dam in India. It also claims the title of the world's highest roller-compacted concrete dam. The site aims to generate 11,223 million units of electricity every year while controlling monsoon floods downstream.
Mein touted the build as a major win for the state economy. Arunachal gets 12 percent of the power for free. Another 1 percent goes to the Local Area Development Fund. The government is pushing for seamless coordination among stakeholders to meet all deadlines. Regarding his commitment to the developer, Mein stated, "I assured Narender Kumar of the full cooperation and support of the Arunachal Pradesh government in addressing the issues involved and facilitating seamless coordination among all stakeholders for the successful and timely completion of the project."
