Itanagar: Engineers lowered the 395-metric-tonne generator stator for Unit 7 at the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project this Wednesday. This move marks a major win for the 2,000-MW site located on the border of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The NHPC project relies on eight separate units, each capable of generating 250 MW.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein announced the progress on October 1. He manages the Power and Hydropower portfolios for Arunachal Pradesh. Mein stated, "This critical milestone in the electro-mechanical works brings the project closer to commissioning Unit 7 and, subsequently, its full installed capacity of 2,000 MW (8x250 MW)."
Construction teams have already finished three generating units. The third unit went live on March 20. These three units currently provide 750 MW of power. The total project expects to produce 7,422 million units of electricity every year. The Union Power Ministry set a target to finish all work by December. Success here moves the plant toward its full 2,000-MW potential.
