Itanagar: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways officially designated the route between Akajan, Assam, and Bame, Arunachal Pradesh, as National Highway-515A. Officials issued the notification on October 12, 2026, under Section 2(2) of the National Highways Act, 1956. This move grants the corridor official status.
The highway starts at the junction with NH-515 near Akajan. It winds through Likabali, Siji, Garu, Dali, and Basar. It ends where it meets NH-13 near Bame. The government integrated the route into the official Schedule of the National Highways Act to fast-track administrative oversight.
Drivers have complained about the Likabali-Garu stretch for years. It remains a major bottleneck for traders, security personnel, and daily commuters heading toward the border. The bad road conditions cause constant trouble. The ministry notification states the department has "formally incorporated NH-515A into the Schedule of the National Highways Act, 1956." Despite the status change, no timeline exists for physical repairs or construction work.
