Guwahati: Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi slammed the forced hospitalization of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk. He called the move a violation of constitutional rights. The Raijor Dal chief demanded Wangchuk's immediate release while calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Delhi Police moved Wangchuk from his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday.
Wangchuk started his strike to highlight exam irregularities like the NEET paper leak. Gogoi insisted that the activist speaks for the country. "The manner in which a person on a hunger strike was forcibly hospitalised, violating fundamental and constitutional rights, is deeply concerning," Gogoi stated. He also claimed the fight impacts future generations.
The Cockroach Janata Party intends to march to Parliament when the Monsoon Session starts this Monday. Police have not received a formal request for this event. Officials doubt they will grant permission due to strict security protocols. Police are currently enforcing Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita across the New Delhi district. Prominent opposition figures, including Arvind Kejriwal, Mallikarjun Kharge, Pawan Khera, Mamata Banerjee, and the Samajwadi Party, have also criticized the police actions.
