Guwahati: The All Bodo Students Union urged educationist Sonam Wangchuk to break his 18-day indefinite hunger strike. The activist is protesting alleged NEET examination irregularities at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Khwrwmdao Wary, president of the student body, spoke to the media in Kokrajhar today. He insisted that the government must address the concerns raised by the campaigner to protect the future of millions of students.
Wary called Wangchuk a climate activist and a recipient of the Upendranath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award. He claimed the educator earned that recognition through a lifelong commitment to the public good. "We support the democratic movement taking place at Jantar Mantar," Wary said. He stated the union believes the demands for transparency in education policy are genuine.
The union leader pressed the Government of India to start talks immediately. He argued that officials must provide meaningful solutions to the ongoing agitation. Wary asked Wangchuk to prioritize his physical well-being. He emphasized that the movement needs him healthy to continue the fight for student rights. "We request Sonam Wangchuk ji to take care of his health and withdraw his hunger strike," he added.
Legal pressure is mounting elsewhere. The Delhi High Court scheduled a hearing for July 16 regarding a public interest litigation about the activist. The court identified the situation as an urgent matter. The petition demands immediate medical aid for Wangchuk and insists the government open official channels for communication.
