Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma threw his weight behind students protesting the NEET medical entrance exam scandal on July 24. Speaking at an event in Kawrthah North village, the Chief Minister affirmed that his government backs the push for fairness and transparency. He specifically championed the ongoing agitation that has gripped the nation.
Lalduhoma voiced support for activist Sonam Wangchuk and his peaceful protest efforts. "We stand in solidarity with our youth. We also support and empathise with activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is leading a peaceful movement on this issue," he said. The protests center on allegations of repeated paper leaks.
Students in Aizawl have been on the streets for two days. Hundreds gathered outside Vanapa Hall on Wednesday to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The crowd called for severe punishment for those behind the leaks and justice for families of students who died by suicide during the controversy.
On Thursday, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl student body organized thousands across Aizawl, Lunglei, and other locations. They demanded a total overhaul of the National Testing Agency. Protesters also slammed the Delhi Police for using force against students at the Chalo Sansad rally in the capital.
Even the local BJP unit voiced support for the demonstrators. They maintained that students deserve fair testing and argued that the unrest could drive real change. The party also touted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's plan for fast-track courts and tougher penalties for those rigging exams.
