Guwahati: The All Bodo Students' Union has formally asked activist Sonam Wangchuk to stop his 18-day indefinite hunger strike. The group wants the Centre to open immediate talks regarding the protest at Jantar Mantar. Wangchuk is striking to protest alleged irregularities in the NEET examination.
ABSU president Khwrwmdao Wary addressed the media in Kokrajhar. He stated that Wangchuk must prioritize his physical well-being. The union leader believes the campaigner's work for student rights impacts the future of millions. He described Wangchuk as an educationist and a climate activist who received the Upendranath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award. Wary noted that he has truly lived up to that honour through his commitment to humanity.
The union demands the government address these issues through open dialogue. Wary said, "We support the democratic movement taking place at Jantar Mantar." He insisted that authorities must engage with protest leaders to find meaningful solutions. The student body views the current demands as legitimate and pressing.
The Delhi High Court is taking action. Judges agreed to hear a public interest litigation on July 16. The petition requests immediate medical help for the activist. It also asks the government to begin discussions. The court recognized the urgency of the situation while affirming the right to peaceful protest.
