Shillong: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation restored full service Wednesday evening. All sixteen closed metro stations are now open for the public. The transit authority confirmed the update on the social media platform X. They stated: "All stations of the Delhi Metro network are now open for passenger services."
Security forced the shutdown of central stations throughout the day. These included Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, and Shivaji Stadium. While entry and exit gates remained locked, authorities kept interchange facilities active at Mandi House, Rajiv Chowk, and Central Secretariat.
Tensions flared after Monday's violent march from Jantar Mantar toward Parliament. Led by the Cockroach Janta Party, demonstrators demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. They blamed him for repeated examination failures, specifically the NEET-UG paper leaks. Students, activists, and opposition figures joined the movement. Police promised an investigation into allegations of brutality during the clash.
Meanwhile, the Cockroach Janta Party sent a formal letter to activist Sonam Wangchuk on Wednesday. They urged him to stop his 25-day hunger strike, which fueled the ongoing demands for the minister's resignation. Police maintain a heavy presence in the area to keep order.
