Shillong: The parents of Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke lived in hiding for nearly three weeks. They fled their home in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to escape a barrage of harassment. The family received death threats via YouTube during the nationwide student agitation.
Bhagwanrao Dipke, the founder's father, spoke about the ordeal on July 25. He said: "We were under immense pressure, received death threats." The family spent 15 to 20 days away from home out of sheer terror. Anita Dipke, Abhijeet's mother, stopped eating and sleeping after her son was slapped and attacked during the unrest.
She criticized the police conduct during the July 20 Sansad Chalo march. She questioned the use of force against students, noting that protesters were beaten and had their clothes torn. Despite the trauma, the parents expressed pride in their son's leadership.
The movement successfully forced Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to resign. Bhagwanrao Dipke called the resignation a major victory for students. He thanked Pradhan for taking the right step and focusing on education in his exit letter. Abhijeet has instructed his parents to wait for his call before traveling to Delhi. His mother remains relieved, marking the success on the day of Ashadhi Ekadashi.
