Imphal: Manipur's Communist Party of India (Marxist) committee threw its weight behind Sonam Wangchuk today. The educator currently leads an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Students are protesting frequent national exam paper leaks. They want accountability for the broken system.
Kshetrimayum Santa, Secretary of the CPI(M) Manipur State Committee, released a statement today. He called the protest a legitimate democratic movement. He argued it protects the futures of students nationwide, especially those hailing from Manipur.
Delhi Police removed Wangchuk from the protest site by force. The CPI(M) labeled this an act of suppression. "The party described the protest against repeated examination paper leaks and the demand for institutional accountability as a legitimate democratic movement," the official release noted. Officials should use dialogue instead of force.
The party wants concrete reforms. They demanded an investigation into the paper leaks. They also called for the safety and dignity of every student involved. Supporters held demonstrations across the country on July 20 to back the strikers. Manipur's CPI(M) now urges all student bodies and civil organizations to join the fight for educational justice.
