Agartala Police Tighten Security as Ganesh Puja Celebrations Surge

Agartala: Ganesh Puja celebrations in Agartala exploded this year. The city is hosting 94 distinct events, a sharp jump from the 68 recorded last year. Tripura Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha kicked off the festivities on Sunday, September 13.

Police officials confirmed that these events fall under the jurisdiction of six stations in the West District. The AD Nagar Police Station leads the count with 30 pujas. West Agartala follows with 22, and East Agartala oversees 18. New Capital Complex and Amtali stations manage nine each, while the Airport Police Station handles the final six.

Authorities boosted security to manage the crowds. They added 120 extra officers to patrol the city and monitor the pandals. Officers are running constant vehicle and naka checks to keep the streets safe. A senior official stated, "Since the number of pujas has increased, we have deployed additional police personnel across Agartala city and in and around the puja venues. We are also conducting regular vehicle checking, naka checking and keeping a close eye on the overall situation."

Traffic is shifting to match the festivities. Police enforced no-entry rules in specific zones throughout the city. These restrictions apply daily from 2 pm to midnight.
