Aizawl: K. Laltluangkima joined the Rajya Sabha on July 20. The Zoram People Movement leader took his oath of office to officially begin his term in the Upper House of Parliament. He reached the seat after a decisive victory in the Mizoram Assembly.

Laltluangkima secured 26 of the 36 votes cast during the June 18 election. His sole opponent, Zothansangi Hmar of the Mizo National Front, finished with 10 votes. The ruling party holds clear dominance in the 40-member house. The election result solidifies the political influence of the ZPM at both state and national levels.

Major opposition parties stayed out of the race. The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress declined to field candidates and their legislators abstained from the vote. Following the ceremony, the new MP expressed his gratitude. He thanked God, the Mizoram government, political leaders, and the people for their support and confidence in him, stating, "I thank God, the Mizoram government, political leaders and the people of the state for their support and confidence in me."
