Imphal: Former Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar warned today that the Suspension of Operations pact with Kuki militant groups cannot last forever. He demanded a return to the status quo that existed before the ceasefire agreement. Joykumar, a former signatory to the deal, accused these militant groups of repeatedly breaching established ground rules.
These violations have escalated, leading to killings and other grave incidents. He specifically cited the recent murder of six Naga civilians as proof that the situation is deteriorating. Joykumar questioned why the Government of India and the Manipur government have failed to take firm action against the offenders. He stated, "The SoO arrangement was never intended to become a permanent framework."
He warned that inaction only emboldens militants and fuels further instability across the state. Joykumar delivered these remarks while attending a 10-km marathon in Langol. The event was organized by the Langol Youth Development Club and the 189 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force under the Sports for Peace and Development initiative.
The marathon featured over 120 participants for the 10-km race, with another 100 people joining from Shija Hospital. Glasgow Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Sorokhaibam Bidyarani and Shija Hospitals Managing Director Dr. Palin attended the ceremony. Organizers awarded cash prizes to winners across 10-km, 6-km, and 4-km categories to promote youth engagement in sports.
