Woman rescued from month-long captivity in Bongaigaon home

Guwahati: Authorities pulled a woman from her Bongaigaon home on Tuesday after she spent months in captivity. Police and a magistrate entered the property following a complaint from the victim's family. They had to break the gate lock to gain entry. The rescue operation was led by Himani Adhikari, a member of the Assam State Commission for Women.

The victim claims her husband, Anshuman Kalita, kept her locked inside the house starting in February. She alleges that she endured consistent mental harassment throughout this period. She also named her brother-in-law as an accomplice in the abuse. The woman stated she was "not allowed to leave the premises" at any point during her confinement.

Officials have not yet confirmed if they have officially registered a case against Kalita or his brother. Information regarding the ongoing investigation remains limited.
