Shillong: The Voice of the People Party is demanding answers. Officials want to know why the Meghalaya government keeps ignoring the Union Public Service Commission. The state has failed to submit a proposal for an Empanelment Committee Meeting. This meeting must happen to select a new Director General of Police.

UPSC Under Secretary Sanjay Kumar sent a formal letter on September 24, 2026. This is the second reminder sent to the Meghalaya Chief Secretary. The Commission previously asked for the proposal on May 14 and August 5. The state government remains silent. VPP spokesperson Dr. A. W. Rani said the party wants to know if the delay stems from administrative failure or a lack of urgency. The party stated, "The people of Meghalaya deserved a clear and convincing explanation for the prolonged delay in initiating the process."

This appointment affects the entire police force. It touches on institutional accountability and law enforcement success. The VPP insists the government must follow Supreme Court directions immediately. They want the state to disclose the proposal status and explain their lack of compliance. The public expects a prompt response.
