Agartala: Tripura plans to hit 500 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The state currently holds 17 MW of installed rooftop solar power. Biswajit Basu, managing director of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd, announced the plan on Wednesday during a World Standards Day event in Agartala. He noted, "Reliable and affordable electricity was essential for economic growth and social development."

TSECL intends to install 150 MW of rooftop solar across 1.5 lakh households. The corporation also wants to build 200 MWh of electricity storage at the 33-kV level to stabilize the grid. Engineers will convert over 5,000 drinking water pumps to solar power. Local youths will receive training in solar technology to support this growth. Modernization is the priority. Rising demand from artificial intelligence requires better power infrastructure.

The event involved the Indian Buildings Congress Tripura State Chapter and TSECL. Key attendees included IBC national president Chinmoy Debnath, Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission chairman Hemanta Verma, and NIT Agartala professor Shubhadeep Bhattacharya. Discussions centered on sustainable development and technical upgrades. Swapan Debbarma, R K Majumdar, and Bimal Das also joined the sessions to debate the future of clean energy.
