Guwahati: Veteran Assamese actress Purabi Sarma died Tuesday, July 14, in Guwahati. She suffered a cardiac arrest around 7:30 pm. Medical staff declared her dead after she was rushed to a hospital. She was 76. Friends, family, and colleagues will gather at her Shantipur residence to pay their final respects.

Sarma was a fixture in regional cinema. Her career spanned decades. She made her debut in Ajoli Nabou and earned a National Award for her role in Ragini. Audiences knew her from films like the 2022 production Porobhat and the 2006 television serial Gateway.

She kept working late into her life. The actress participated in the Filmfare Awards Assamese and the Prag Cine Awards.
