Two workers dead, four injured in Sikkim landslide

Gangtok: A fresh landslide killed two workers and injured four others in Sikkim's Namchi district on Saturday afternoon. The crew was clearing debris from a road linking Sada and Phamtam villages. A previous slide had blocked the route. Suddenly, more earth and rocks swept down. The slide buried all six men.

The dead are 18-year-old Lal Bahadur Rai and 61-year-old Man Bahadur Gurung. Rescuers pulled four survivors from the rubble. The injured are Anil Rai, Mohan Bahadur Chhetri, Mahendra Rai, and Sonam Wangdi Bhutia. They now receive care at the District Hospital in Namchi for what officials described as "grievous injuries" sustained during the accident.

Local police, district administration staff, and villagers joined forces to dig out the workers. Senior officials, including the District Collector, the Additional District Collector, and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, arrived at the scene to manage the rescue operation. Rain continues to threaten the region as crews work to reopen blocked mountain roads.
