Gangtok: A sudden landslide killed two workers and injured four others in Sikkim’s Namchi district on Saturday afternoon. The crew was clearing a road connecting Sada and Phamtam villages after a previous slip blocked the path. The hillside gave way again, burying all six men under a pile of earth and stone.
The dead were 18-year-old Lal Bahadur Rai and 61-year-old Man Bahadur Gurung. Police stated the victims were trapped instantly. Rescue teams pulled the four survivors from the muck: Anil Rai, Mohan Bahadur Chhetri, Mahendra Rai, and Sonam Wangdi Bhutia.
Medics rushed the injured to the District Hospital in Namchi for urgent care. The District Collector, the Additional District Collector, and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate arrived at the scene shortly after the disaster. Local police and nearby villagers joined forces to dig through the debris. The operation required significant manpower to clear the site safely.
