Agartala: Tripura’s Sixth State Finance Commission handed its long-awaited report to Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday, July 31. Chairman Abhishek Singh, alongside member Dr. Pallab Kanti Ghosal and member secretary Dr. Akinchan Sarkar, delivered the findings to the state government. The state first formed the commission on January 7, 2025, acting under Articles 243(I) and 243(Y) of the Constitution.
The commission spent months reviewing how money flows to rural and urban entities. Its primary mission involved evaluating the financial health of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Urban Local Bodies, and the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. They also sought ways to boost the administrative efficiency of these local groups. Experts and government departments provided the input required to shape these final recommendations.
Chief Minister Saha acknowledged the effort behind the document. He promised a thorough review of the suggested measures. He stated, "The state government would examine the recommendations carefully and take appropriate steps to further strengthen local self-governance and ensure balanced development across Tripura."
Chairman Singh thanked the Rural Development, Urban Development, and Finance departments for their assistance. The report now moves to the Council of Ministers for a final look. If approved, officials plan to implement the changes between 2026-27 and 2030-31. This timeline aims to solidify fiscal decentralization across the state.
