Agartala: Tripura Police caught two Bangladeshi women in the Sepahijala district on Sunday, August 9. Officers from the Madhupur Police Station apprehended the pair near the border fence in the Kaiyadhepa area. They had no valid travel documents.
The suspects are 31-year-old Shakila Khanum, from the Bagerhat district, and Sonia Sultana, from the Narail district. Both women have families and children waiting back home in Bangladesh. They hired an agent to help them slip past the barbed wire after leaving Dhaka.
The women intended to reach Chennai to find work in hotels. Police grew suspicious after watching the duo move through the border zone. "Police personnel noticed their suspicious movements in the border area and detained them for questioning. During interrogation, we found inconsistencies in their statements and subsequently learned that the duo had entered India without valid travel documents," officials stated.
Authorities booked the women under strict passport and visa laws. Police brought them before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court at 3 pm on Sunday.
