Guwahati: South Salmara-Mankachar officials ordered the expulsion of Mohammad Masood, a 24-year-old Bangladeshi national, following his conviction for illegal border crossing. Border Security Force personnel caught Masood on January 13, 2026, at the Jordanga BOP. He hails from Ratanpur village in the Kurigram district.

Police registered Mankachar PS Case No. 07/2026 against him. Charges included breaking the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984. The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate convicted him on July 21, 2026. He served concurrent sentences for his crimes.

Masood completed his jail time on August 12. He moved from Dhubri District Jail to the Matia Holding Centre in Goalpara. The District Magistrate ruled his presence threatens internal security. The order explicitly states the "continued presence of the foreign national in Assam was detrimental to general public interest and the internal security of the State."

The Magistrate gave Masood 24 hours to leave Assam via the South Salmara-Mankachar or Dhubri route. Officials must now record his biometric data on the Foreigner Identification Portal. Police also received orders to seize any local documents, including Aadhaar or ration cards, and identify any property he owns before finalizing his return to Bangladesh.
