Agartala: The Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund approved Rs 3 lakh to help Ashok Das pay for a kidney transplant. Das lives in Phulkumari, located in the Matabari Assembly constituency. West Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb announced the funding on Tuesday. He personally forwarded the application to the fund after Das reached out for help.

The cash arrives soon. Deb claimed the process moved quickly after he sent the request forward. The money will go toward medical bills at the Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Kolkata.

Deb expressed his gratitude regarding the approval. "I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sanctioning Rs 3 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund towards the treatment of Ashok Das. I pray for his speedy recovery," Deb said.

The hospital must submit actual expenditure records to receive the funds. The payout cannot exceed 50 percent of the total costs or the sanctioned limit. Officials also required the hospital to verify patient identity. The facility must strictly follow the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994. Deb noted that the Prime Minister usually clears most medical aid requests sent his way.
