Agartala: The Tripura High Court forced the suspension of Sushanta Deb, the Officer-in-Charge of the Airport Police Station in Agartala. The move comes after Deb defied a direct order from his superior to register an FIR regarding a woman's complaint. The officer ignored a directive from West Tripura District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak for 25 days.
Senior advocate Purushottam Roy Barman argued the case for the petitioner. He claimed the police failed to act on the woman's report of a cognizable offence filed nearly a month ago. Barman stated, "Instead of fulfilling their legal obligation, police allegedly detained the complainant, subjected her to harassment, and pressured her to withdraw her case."
The state government confirmed the suspension during a Thursday hearing before a Division Bench led by the Chief Justice. The court learned the victim faced fresh threats and intimidation on Wednesday. The bench ordered authorities to provide immediate police protection for the woman. Further hearings are set for Friday to track the investigation and ensure total accountability.
