Agartala: Three Royal Bengal tiger cubs are thriving at the Sepahijala Zoological Park in Tripura. The cubs arrived between August 30 and August 31. This birth brings the total tiger population at the park to seven.
Zoo director Siddhartha Debbarma confirmed the newborns are healthy. Staff members are monitoring the cubs around the clock to prevent neonatal complications. "All three are currently surviving and doing well. We are making every effort to observe and monitor them closely so that all of them survive," Debbarma said.
The Forest Department is keeping the cubs in a night shelter, separate from their mother for most of the day. They only reunite for limited periods. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests RK Samal noted this approach protects the newborns from rain. Samal said, "This year again, the pair has given birth to three tiger cubs, and they are quite healthy."
The same tiger pair produced three cubs last year. One of those cubs died, but two survived and now live in a separate enclosure. Officials hope the new arrivals will drive up tourism at the zoo. The parents originally came to the facility alongside a pair of leopards and other animals.
