Imphal: Three Manipur wheelchair basketball players secured spots on the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India men's squad. This marks a major milestone for the sport in the state. The athletes are Syed Farooque of Lilong Haoreibi Awang, Thounaojam Khelemba Meitei of Lilong Chajing Mamang Leikai, and Md Aziz of Hatta. They hail from Thoubal, Imphal West, and Imphal East districts respectively.

Wheelchair Basketball Association Manipur General Secretary Md Yunus Khan announced the news through a press statement. Khan noted that the feat shows how persons with disabilities can excel when they receive the right support. He pushed those still confined to their homes to recognize their own strength. "The selection of three players from WBAM demonstrates that even the differently abled are just as capable as the abled," Khan stated.

The association is now turning its attention toward local leadership. Khan called on the Manipur Chief Minister and the Sports Minister to address a previously submitted memorandum regarding the welfare of persons with disabilities. He asked the state government to honor those commitments and expand opportunities for the community. The WBAM also requested public support for its roster and organization.
