Thieves Target Flood-Hit Sivasagar Family, Steal Wedding Gold and Medical Cash

Guwahati: Floodwaters forced the Malakar family out of their home in Luthuri Chetia village, but thieves finished the job. Burglars hit the residence of Jitu Malakar in the Betbari area of Sivasagar, Assam, as soon as the water levels dropped. They took everything.

The haul included all the jewellery meant for the upcoming December wedding of Niharika Malakar. The thieves also grabbed Rs 70,000 cash earmarked for a vital medical operation. Jitu Malakar and his family support themselves through daily wages and driving e-rickshaws. They scraped together their savings over years of hard work.

The family now faces a total crisis. Recent flooding already ruined their home and crippled their ability to make a living. Local residents are calling for a police investigation and urgent support. One neighbor stated, "The incident has sparked concern among local residents, who have called for a thorough investigation and support for the flood-hit family."
