Police Shoot Suspect in Sivasagar Murder Weapon Hunt

Guwahati: Assam police shot and wounded Rubul Khan on Monday night near Nazira town. Khan was in custody for the murder of Biman Barua. Officers took him to a remote spot in Sivasagar district to recover the weapon used in the killing. Khan turned on the police. He tried to slash Bihubor Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nabin Chetia with the sword.

Chetia escaped without a scratch. Police fired back, hitting Khan. He went to the Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital first. Doctors later sent him to the Dibrugarh Medical College and Hospital due to massive blood loss. Police successfully recovered the weapon during the botched operation.

This shooting followed an identical operation just hours earlier. Police shot Biki Singh Birendra in Bihubor during a separate encounter. Authorities named Birendra a key figure in the Barua homicide. Official police statements noted, "The sword allegedly used in the murder was recovered during the operation." Investigators are still piecing together the events surrounding both violent confrontations.
