Guwahati: Sivasagar police caught Binod Gogoi with a .32 calibre pistol on August 7. Officers moved on a tip-off to conduct a search at Ladoigarh Mising Gaon in Halwating. They found the weapon hidden on the Baruapukhuri resident during the operation.

Gogoi claims he smuggled the firearm across the border. "He had brought the pistol from Nagaland with the intention of selling it in Assam," investigators said after the preliminary interrogation. Police seized the gun and moved the suspect into custody for additional questioning.

A case is now open. Authorities are digging into the source of the weapon to see if a larger trafficking network is at play. They are currently hunting for potential buyers and other links to this illegal trade.
